20.12.2013 –  Annual meeting of the Faculty of Basic Sciences (FSB) at the EPFL – “Bronze prize of safety 2013” for our laboratory

During the annual meeting 2013 of the Faculty of Basic Sciences (FSB) at the EPFL our laboratory has been awarded the Bronze prize of safety 2013. The prize was given by the FSB and the Occupational Safety and Health Service (SB-SST) and received by the official safety delegate (COSEC) of our laboratory, Dr. Fernando Cortés Salazar. Thank you Fernando and thanks to all group members for ensuring that everyone follows the rules of safety and good lab practice!

13.12.2013 – PhD defense by Encarnación (Encarni) Torralba from the University of Murcia

With Prof. Hubert H. Girault as one of the referees, Encarni Torralba, former guest PhD student at LEPA, passed successfully her PhD defense. The thesis is entitled “Study of Ion Transfer Processes Through Liquid Membranes by Means of Voltammetrical and Chronopotentiometrical Techniques” and was submitted to the Departamento de Química Física, Facultad de Química, Universidad de Murcia, Spain. Congratulations!

20.09.2013 – Habilitation of Carlos M. Pereira from the University of Porto

Today, Prof. Hubert H. Girault has been one of the examiners of the habilitation examination of our collaborator Carlos M. Pereira from the University of Porto.

10.09.2013 – 64th Annual Meeting of the International Society of Electrochemistry in Mexico – Poster prize for Natalia Gasilova.

Natlia Gasilova was awarded as a Poster Prize Winner at the 64th Annual Meeting of the ISE in Santiago de Querétaro, Mexico, for her poster “Droplets coupling with electrostatic-spray ionization mass spectrometry in microfluidic format”. Congratulations!

06.09.2013 – Fall Meeting of the Swiss Chemical Society 2013 at the EPFL

Prof. Hubert H. Girault gave an invited lecture about ESTASI at the the Fall Meeting of the Swiss Chemical Society 2013 at the EPFL campus in Lausanne.

02.09.2013 – Prize from the German Chemical Society (Gesellschaft Deutscher Chemiker e.V. – GDCh) for our group member Dr. Andreas Lesch.

Our group member Dr. Andreas Lesch was awarded from the division of Applied Electrochemistry (Fachgruppe Angewandte Elektrochemie) of the German Chemical Society (GDCh) with the Promotion Prize 2013 in the Field of Electrochemistry. Congratulations!

 

09.08.2013 – Advanced Electrochemistry Course at the National University of Colombia.

An Advanced Electrochemistry Course was jointly organized by the National University of Colombia and LEPA, which took place in Bogota, Colombia, from 8-9 August 2013. LEPA participated with five lectures about “Fundamentals in Electrochemistry I + II”, “Redox Flow Batteries”, “Proteomics” and “Functionalised Soft Interfaces”, given by Prof. Hubert H. Girault, and two lectures about “Scanning Electrochemical Microscopy” and “Electrochemical Read-Out of Bacterial Bioreporters”, given by Dr. Fernando Cortés Salazar. The National University of Colombia participated with two lectures about “Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy” and “Simulations”, both given by Prof. Marco Fidel Suarez Herrera

23.07.2013 – Public defense of Dmitry Momotenko‘s PhD thesis.

Dmitry Momotenko received his PhD certificate from his supervisor Prof. Hubert H. Girault after his public defense. His PhD thesis is entitled “Scanning Electrochemical Microscopy and Finite Element Modeling of Structural and Transport Properties of Electrochemical Systems“. Congratulations!

27.06.2013 – Public defense of Astrid Johana Olaya Avendaño‘s PhD thesis.

After her public defense, Astrid Johana Olaya Avendaño received her PhD certificate from her supervisor Prof. Hubert H. Girault. Her PhD thesis is entitled “Interfacial Self-Assembly as Catalytic Platform for Multielectron Redox Reactions“. Congratulations!

21.06.2013 – First prize for best poster awarded to Alexandra Bondarenko in the summer school on “Electrochemistry for Environmental and Biomedical Applications”.

The 1st prize for the best poster in the summer school on “Electrochemistry for Environmental and Biomedical Applications” in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, went to Alexandra Bondarenko for her poster “Microfluidic push-pull device for surface modification: Numerical simulations and experimental verification”! Congratulations!

 

03.06.2013 – Visit by Prof. Pierre Jean Marie Richard Dablé from the Institute National Polytechnique Félix Houphouët-Boignyde, Yamoussoukro, Ivory Coast.

The supervisor of Desiré Martial Koutouan Abro, Prof. Pierre Jean Marie Richard Dablé, visited LEPA for a couple of days.

24.05.2013 – Public defense of Liang Qiao’s PhD thesis entitled “Mass Spectrometry based Analytical Methods for Proteome Analysis and Redoxomics.

After his public defense, Liang Qiao received his PhD certificate from his supervisor Prof. Hubert H. Girault. Congratulations!

23.05.2013 – General Assembly of Electrosuisse in Baden, Switzerland – “Prix de publication technique ETG” for Veronique Amstutz and Dr. Kathryn Toghill.

Veronique Amstutz, Dr. Kathryn Toghill, Christos Comninellis and Hubert H. Girault were awarded for their article “Les batteries redox pour le stockage d’énergie“, published in the journal Bulletin Electrosuisse, as the best specialised article in the field of energy. They received the certificate from Willy R. Gehrer, president of Electrosuisse. Congratulations!

22.05.2013 – Public defense of Peiyu Ge’s PhD thesis.

After her public defense, Peiyu Ge received her PhD certificate from her supervisor Prof. Hubert Girault. Her PhD thesis is entitled entitled “Hydrogen evolution in biphasic systems“. Congratulations!

23.04.2013 – “International Relations” meeting at the EPFL with a delegation from Peking University.

In the course of the “International Relations” meeting, Prof. Hubert H. Girault got the opportunity to show the EPFL campus to Prof. Zhou Qifeng, former President of the Peking University.

18.04.2013 – Ceremony of the “China government award for outstanding self-financed students abroad” in Bern, Switzerland.

10.04.2013 – Visit by Veronique Amstutz amd Kathryn Ellen Toghill to the Ostfalia University of Applied Sciences, Faculty of Supply Engineering, in Wolfenbüttel, Germany.

Veronique and Kathryn had a detailed look on the installed redox flow battery and visited the renewable energy park, followed by very nice and interesting discussions.
